ALANA Committee:

African American, Latina/Hispanic, Asian American, and Native American (ALANA) Representative: In an effort to bolster the diversity of the Wellesley student body, WCAB's ALANA Representative works to encourage prospective students from minority groups in the Boston area to apply to Wellesley. The ALANA Committee works with the Admissions Office to identify area schools and non-profit organizations in order to provide additional support during the admissions process. Upon identifying prospective minority students, the ALANA rep provides connections with current Wellesley students and alumnae to share perspectives on the College and life after graduation. The Committee also focuses on increasing the diversity of our programming activities, and membership of our club. Book Awards Program:

The Book Awards program honors selected high school juniors with a special Wellesley College edition of The Norton Book of Women's Lives anthology. The high schools select these juniors for their academic achievement, leadership, community service, and personal character. This program, which we run in tandem with Admissions, has resulted in many talented young women learning about Wellesley for the first time!

We would like to thank our previous alumnae book award sponsors, many of whom have supported this program for years. This year by making a $30 donation, you can sponsor a Book Award and, if you like, designate a specific high school in the Boston area to receive the award. BA_Donor_Reply_Form.pdf.

We are also seeking help in coordinating this program, and specifically with the spring distribution process (mailing or delivering books; and/or presenting the awards at local high schools during their spring awards assemblies).
